Community Service and Volunteerism

COMMUNITY SERVICE (Curricular Band Students)

Each curricular ensemble member will be expected to serve our community (meaning our high school, school district, Naperville events, and/or beyond) through instrumental performance on their instrument three times per year . This will be noted as a part of their second semester grade. Options include but are not limited to:

• Pep Band for basketball games

• School district special events (such as Naperville Education Foundation breakfast)

• Assisted living centers in and beyond our community borders

• Performing your instrument next to a Salvation Army bell ringer during the winter holidays or at a dedication ceremony

• Instrumental performances at a place of worship

If you have an idea but are not sure it will serve for credit, please see your director with your request. Solo and Ensemble is a part of our class curriculum and learning process and therefore does not qualify as an option in this area. Giving back to our community and performing beyond the borders of our band room are some of the most valuable things we can do as musicians and links directly with our school district's vision of students being "Community Contributors."

FUNDRAISING / VOLUNTEERISM (Curricular and Extra-Curricular Band Students)

While we are fortunate to receive some support from our school and district, the operating cost of the band and color guard programs significantly exceeds any class or activity participation fees assessed by the district. Therefore, a great responsibility is assumed by the Band Booster Association to raise funding to cover this deficit in the operating cost of the band program as a whole.

Curricular class fundraising is highly encouraged. While fundraising is not a requirement for each curricular class (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble), students are asked to volunteer for three or more fundraising events anytime throughout the year.

Fundraising is a requirement for all extra-curricular ensembles (jazz, marching band, Drumshow, etc.). Students and/or their parents may fulfill this requirement. For each extra-curricular activity in which a student participates, there is a requirement to take part in three fundraising activities anytime throughout the school year. (For example, if the student is in the marching band and a jazz band, he or his parent must volunteer for six fundraising shifts per school year). Fundraising opportunities include working Bears Games, Concessions, Market Day, Car Washes, Ribfest, Last Fling, Municipal Band Ice Cream Social, etc.

Volunteer opportunities can be found on the Volunteer Calendar. To sign up for a volunteer shift, please contact the Band Booster Volunteer Coordinator either via e-mail or phone.
