Wind Ensemble

WindTrump

Wind Ensemble is the most select of the concert bands at Central. It is under the direction of Mr. Alstadt. These are the most committed band instrumentalists in the program who are dedicated to the most outstanding performing group possible.

Members of this group are expected to make a 100 percent commitment to the ensemble, including participation in festivals, competitions, and possible weekend performing tours. Failure to make this commitment will result in removal from the ensemble, at the discretion of Mr. Alstadt. There is an expectation top students will actively participate in woodwind and brass quintets, clarinet choir, and other chamber ensembles throughout the school year. Students are required to participate in Solo and Ensemble and also weekend completions and festivals. At times there are nominal fees for the students in order to travel and enter these performances. If you are not willing or able to make this commitment, please do not take the Wind Ensemble audition. In a performing group such as Wind Ensemble, one person not attending a rehearsal, concert, or festival adversely affects the entire ensemble, creating issues such as improper balance and instrumentation to name a few.

Students selected for this top group must include daily practice in their lifestyle in order to maintain the necessary level of musical proficiency. Nearly 100 percent study privately, again to maintain the necessary skill level. All of these students pre-audition for the director before being nominated for an IMEA audition opportunity.

All Wind Ensemble students are required to perform one solo per quarter (Wind Ensemble) minimum of grade three, to be performed with Smart Music (C), one excerpt of music per quarter, and one scale test per quarter.

All curricular band students are required to participate in three community service projects (and/or pep band events) per year and must march in the Memorial Day Parade.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Alstadt.
