Wind Symphony is a select group, open to sophomores through seniors, who intend to make a serious
commitment to the performance of music at Naperville Central. Members of this group are expected to
make a 100 percent commitment to the ensemble, including participation in festivals, competitions,
and sectionals. Students are required to participate in Solo and Ensemble and also weekend
completions and festivals. At times there are nominal fees for the students in order to travel and
enter these performances. If you are not willing or able to make this commitment, please do not take
the Wind Symphony audition.
In a performing group such as Wind Symphony, one person not attending a rehearsal, concert, or
festival adversely affects the entire ensemble, creating issues such as improper balance and
instrumentation to name a few. Attendance in all performances is mandatory.
Students selected for this ensemble must include daily practice in their lifestyle in order to
maintain the necessary level of musical proficiency. A high percentage of students study privately
to maintain the necessary skill level.
Wind Symphony is under the direction of Mr. Estes.
All curricular band students are required to participate in three community service projects (and/or pep band events) per year and must march in the Memorial Day Parade.
