RIBFEST VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!

There are still many openings for Ribfest shifts on July 3rd and July 5th. Students, remember these volunteer hours can be credited toward your Community Service and Volunteerism requirements for the upcoming school year!

Please e-mail Mr. Rogers ASAP at [bethebull@aol.com] with questions or to schedule your shift. This year we have limited concessions shifts during the school year and the majority of our fundraising will be done during the summer and fall.

Check-in is at the Barn on Martin Avenue. Your check-in time is 15 minutes before the shift is to begin. PLEASE NOTE: Parking can be difficult to find. Please either make arrangements for a ride or leave extra time to find a parking spot!

BBA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Band Booster Association is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to fill the following vacant board positions:

  • Website Designer (manages & implements design changes, troubleshoots problems with the server & manages photo galleries)
  • Concessions Coordinators (1-2 people) (approx 35 events)
  • Concessions Purchasers (1-2 people) (approx 35 events)
  • Media Communications Coordinator (submits articles & information to local media)

MARCHING REDHAWKS DISNEY TRIP

The Marching Redhawks will travel to sunny, warm Orlando, Florida over Winter Break -- from December 29, 2008 to January 3, 2009, and will march at Disney World in the SpectroMagic Pre-Parade on New Year's Eve!

We have been given an extension by the travel company handling our trip, and it is not too late to sign up. All details about the trip, including a preliminary itinerary, cost and payment due dates, can be downloaded here.

This trip is not mandatory. Students can earn money to apply toward their Disney cost by selling ad space in our Advertising Booklet (see below), through our poinsettia sales in November, and through Tastefully Simple sales (see below).

2008-09 AD BOOK FUNDRAISER
RAISE FUNDS FOR YOUR STUDENT ACCOUNT!

Incoming freshmen and all returning band students are welcome to participate in ad sales to earn money for participation in band activities. The BBA is well aware that high school music participation requires quite a financial commitment from families and we are giving students an opportunity to earn funds for their student accounts.

Attached you will find information about ad sales. Many students have really made this program work for them, but…..you must start early and have all of the information turned in no later than August 29. Students earn 50 percent of the ad price for their student account. That means if you sell $100 worth of band ads, you will then have $50 deposited in your account. For things such as the Disney trip, student account funds may be used to pay balances at the end of a payment schedule but may not be used to secure the initial deposit for a trip.

Please use the summer months to support your participation in the NCHS Band Programs!

DRUM MAJOR UNIFORM HELP NEEDED

The band uniform department is looking someone to make a drum major jacket. There is a sample coat to work from but no pattern.

CURRICULAR BAND CONCERT DRESSES

Beginning with the 2008-09 school year, all the curricular bands will require female participants to wear the black velour dress now required of Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony. This is great news because all participants can have one uniform all four years! If you are a senior and would like to donate your dress to the BBA, or place the dress on consignment for a new student to purchase, there will be an opportunity to do this after the last concert in May.

You have three options:

  1. Donate your dress. The BBA will sell used dresses for $50. Proceeds will benefit NCHS Bands.
  2. Place your dress on consignment. The BBA will sell the dress for $50 and when yours sells, you will receive $25 of the sale price.
  3. Order a new dress for $90. Click here for the order form

The dresses must be dropped off at Margaret Donahue's home at the end of the school year. Please make sure the dress is clean and labeled with your name, phone number and dress size. Please contact Margaret Donahue for more information or to make arrangements to drop off your dress.

TASTEFULLY SIMPLE FUNDRAISER:
ANOTHER WAY TO EARN MONEY FOR YOUR STUDENT ACCOUNT!

Carol Byron, Tastefully simple consultant and band mom, will donate all of her profit (more than 25%) of all sales to selling students' NCHS band student accounts. NCHS BAND SPRING & SUMMER FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES

City Swim Meet Concessions. The NCHS Band Boosters' will once again provide concessions for the City Swim Meet on July 19, 2008. Many hands are needed for this big event. Please contact Margaret Donahue to sign up!.

Municipal Band Ice Cream Social. We have been selected to sponsor an Ice Cream Social at the June 26, 2008 concert at 7:45 p.m. in Central Park. The theme for this concert is "Robert Hoffman Night." This is a fun event and many hands are needed to bake brownies, pies and other homemade goodies; and to help serve at the concert.

Ribfest. Each year the Band Boosters volunteer to work security and trash pickup shifts to earn much-needed funds for the band program. Many hands are needed to fill these shifts! Security shifts must be manned by adults or seniors 18 years of age. Alumni have also come out to help fill these spots. This is a great way to meet other band parents at this fun venue! Trash pickup shifts can be manned by both adults and students. Check the Main Calendar for dates and available shift openings! Please contact Margaret Donahue to sign up.

Car Washes. Check the Main Calendar for upcoming car wash dates in late Spring and early Summer!!! These car washes are held in the NCHS parking lot (over by the marching band trailer) and are a great way to get some sun and hang out with our great band students! (Parents -- you are welcome to come on by and help wash a car or two . . . or have your car washed too!!)

Band Booster Membership. Many of the activities of the NCHS band program are subsidized by the Band Booster Association. All band families are encouraged to join the BBA, which is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization (so your donations are tax deductible!). We also ask that each band family participate in one of the fundraising efforts of the BBA. Please note -- you do not have to be a member of the BBA to participate in fundraising efforts.

Because the proceeds from fundraisers benefit each and every band member at Naperville Central High School (no, not just the extracurricular bands), we are asking that each band family do their part to help raise funds to keep our programs going strong. The Band Booster Association feels strongly that each and every band student at NCHS is worth our (and your) time and effort!
