Conductor and Associate Director of Bands
Scott Silder, Band Director at Naperville Central High School , conducts the Wind
Ensemble, Wind Symphony , and Concert Band, with colleague and friend DJ Alstadt. Together with Mr.
Alstadt, other responsibilities include the Chamber Ensemble program, Marching Band, Jazz Lab Band,
Clarinet Choir, Pep Band, and overseeing the high school private studio staff.
Under his direction, the music program has been recognized as a Grammy Signature School, been
invited to perform and give a clinic at the 2006 Illinois All-State Music Convention, the Wind
Ensemble has placed second at the Illinois State Concert Band Contest, and the band program hosts
its own Solo and Ensemble Extravaganza.
Mr. Silder received his musical education from Illinois State University , where he earned a
Bachelor of Music in Music Education. He is currently pursuing his Masters Degree from VanderCook
College of Music. His primary trombone teachers have been Dr. Steve Parsons, Max Bonecutter, Bob
Hess, and Chris Trinche . Mr. Silder has studied conducting with Mr. Dan Farris, Dr. Steven Steele,
and Mr. René Rosas . In 2005 Silder was inducted into Who's Who in America. In 2003 Silder was
recognized as an outstanding first year teacher in Naperville School District 203 (Arlo-Shilling).
From the fall of 2002 to 2003 Mr. Silder also was the band director at Ellsworth Elementary School
in Naperville .
Mr. Silder's professional performing experiences include: Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Naperville
Municipal Band, Pontiac Municipal Band, and the Illinois Brassworks. He continues to remain an
active performer and music arranger throughout the community and Chicago land area. Mr. Silder was
raised in Naperville and is a graduate of Naperville North High School , under the direction of Mr.
Jim Stombres and Mr. Brian Wis. He is married to his cherished wife, Amie.
While at Illinois State University, Mr. Silder participated in the Wind Symphony, Jazz Band,
Symphony Orchestra, and multiple chamber ensembles. Other ensembles include the "Big Red Marching
Machine", in which Mr. Silder was the Drum Major, additionally he was the student conductor of the
pep band, and was a founding member of the "IB5" Brass Quintet.
